KQED The California Report Magazine · Intern (January 2022 – present)

San Francisco, Calif.

Pitch my own longform audio stories to report and produce for "The California Report Magazine." Research and develop potential stories, show themes and host interview segments to air on the show. Identify interview subjects, conduct pre-interviews, and book guests. Conduct field interviews, record sound and provide producers with useable material.

UC Berkeley J-School · Audio Department Tutor (August 2021 – present)

FOR SPRING 2022 SEMESTER: Acts as producer and tutor for J276 Digital Accountability: Exploring Section 230, a class that will create a podcast investigating the role Section 230 has played in our current misinformation pandemic and solutions to address the problem.

FOR FALL 2021 SEMESTER: Supported students and faculty in the J-School’s audio department. Acted as a producer for students’ North Gate Radio shows on KALX. Trained as an engineer at the J-School’s radio lab. Tutored students in post-production using Adobe Audition.

POLITICO · Editorial Intern (September 2021 – December 2021)

Worked with POLITICO's California Playbook team to write and produce the daily newsletter on politics in California.

Scripted and voiced California Playbook newsletter for POLITICO Newsroom.
Involved in all aspects of content creation and production, including research, reporting, writing, editing and aggregating. 
Contributed to the reporting of a dynamic team covering policy and politics of California for both in-state and national audiences.

 

The Sacramento Bee · Capitol Bureau Intern (May 2021 – August 2021)

Sacramento, Calif.

Reported on state politics, focusing on environmental issues, the state Legislature and policies relating to underserved communities. Experience reporting on breaking news, state workers, obituaries and COVID-19.

Pitched, pursued and developed an enterprise story on California’s caregiving workforce shortage, published on A1.

Published a viral story on a beaver restoration project in Placer County, with over 100,000 page views and nearly 3,000 retweets.

 

Investigative Reporting Program · Research Assistant    (Jan. 2021 – Aug. 2021)

Uses OSINT techniques and databases like LexisNexis, PACER and TLO, files public records requests and analyzes data. Led by Garrett Therolf, former LA Times reporter and producer on Netflix series The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez, and David Barstow, former investigative reporter at the New York Times.

Richmond Pulse · COVID-19 Reporting Fellow    (Jan. 2021 – June 2021)   

COVID-19 reporting on Richmond, Calif. 

Examining and reporting on the impact of COVID-19 in Richmond, focusing on minority populations and inequity. Most recently reported on how the pandemic exacerbated existing environment-related health risks and barriers to health care access for Laotian refugee community.

Supervised and hired and a staff of copy editors, edited incoming breaking news articles. Led weekly desk meetings to coordinate with staff, assisted copyeditors in developing skills and addressed issues as they arose. Trained new copy editors on AP style and news writing style. Cultivated strong working relationships with desk editors to ensure quick responses to questions as they arose. 

NorCal Public Media KRCB-FM · News Reporter, The North Bay Report    (June 2019 – September 2019)
Rohnert Park, Calif.

Wrote and produced feature-length radio stories for the North Bay Report. Experienced in researching and developing story pitches, conducting field interviews and vox pops, identifying unique ambience sounds and quickly cutting tape and producing using Audition and ProTools. 
Coordinated production of KRCB’s TV show Connect the Bay: Gentrification and Displacement.
Wrote online resource pages for Living Downstream, an environmental justice podcast produced at KRCB.
